Parathyroid Surgery: under the knife AGAIN

January's blood test, ordered by an endocrinologist, revealed extremely high levels of calcium in my Dad's body. One symptom was muscle weakness which led to at least 14 non recoverable falls. Other reactions included confusion, loss of appetite, extreme fatigue, loss of balance and others.

Parathyroid ism was the doctor's diagnosis and after 6 months of a medicine regime to control calcium, my Dad was strong enough for a surgery to remove the bad parathyroid. This was a necessity as the medicine jumped from $40 a month to $300 copayment!

Several trips to KU Med for pre surgery testing were necessary!

1 Hour test

Pre surgery Registration:  3 Hours
Surgery pretesting:  42 min

Informed Consent Interview:  26 minutes

Overland Park Regional: Abdomen Ultrasound

Surgery Recovery at KU:  3 days

8 hours after Dad's surgery, on June 30, Carson, Jess and I awoke at 5:20 AM and traveled until 11 pm to arrive at American Fork, Utah for the Bishop Family Reunion!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!
