Science Project Weekend

Hunter and Carson had science projects due Monday of this week. Both were assigned partners and Saturday was the day they all got together. Brad was working at the hospital so that left me to supervise/direct/lead/re-direct/etc 5 boys to get their projects completed!!!!!! Little stressful with all the distractions in the house--video games--piano--garage band--lint on the carpet--water balloons---you get the picture.

Carson and his team tried to prove their hypothesis that a balloon filled with water, when submerged in tap water, would shrink when salt was added. SIMPLE-right!
After 6 experiments changing the variable--balloon never shrunk!!!!!!
Nevertheless, the boys were soaked with water and had more fun filling the balloons than watching the balloon do nothing!
Hunter's science project required several trips to the wild's---no, not the plains of Kansas--just simply the beautifully planned Arboretum and Deanna Rose Farm almost in our backyard.

Between his partner, Raymond, and himself, they needed to capture 20 different "flying insects" Not an easy task! After failed attempts in our backyard with nets, the boys used stolen Quik Trip cups to capture the bugs. Fragrant flowers are the best place to find lots of insects.

As the boys were holding their Quik Trip cup over a grasshopper, a park ranger walked by. I mentioned that the boys were catching insects for a science project and only had an hour left to find 6 bugs. She stated that one was not supposed to take the bugs out of their natural habitat. When she was out of sight, I told the boys to
"Run--get the bugs or you will FAIL this assignment!"

Hunter's bravery made this assignment possible as he caught a wasp, bee, hornet, grasshopper and his favorite---STICKBUG!

Ha! Ha! Sacrificing obedience to the law and pollination of the planet for the greater good...an "A" in Science. I like how your little law-breaking mind works! You rock sista! Here's to bug collections and bee stings!

Well if they end up in juvie you'll know why. jk. That's a silly rule.
Of course filling the balloons are so much more fun than watching, especially if one accidently (on purpose) bursts all over one of them.
