A visit to St. Luke's South for Dr. Brad

After spending all night fighting a left side-abdominal pain, I took Brad to the ER where blood and urine tests and a CT Scan revealed inflammation in the intestines. Official diagnosis:  diverticulitis. Brad calls it "Old Man's" disease!

He received oral antibiotics and pain meds through an IV while in the ER and was sent home with instructions of more fiber in his diet and oral antibiotics. He spent the day resting and had another night of little sleep. We all are feeling under the weather, so we are taking the day off from Stake Conference.

Carson has been coughing for a week now and I know he is very sleep deprived as he has been coughing at night. We are letting everyone sleep and rest their weary bodies today.

Brad's intestines are inflamed and will continue to cause him problems. He will need antibiotics for outbreaks and thankfully he will be able to write the script himself.

Entering old age requires strength and resilence.

I have been enjoying my exercises classes at our local community center since the second week of January. I have participated in at least 3 or 4 classes each week--YOGA, BOCCI ball, Step Aerobics and Strength Training. I am enjoying the variety of movements and classes and want to continue to attend as I am liking the way I feel.

Jessie spent the entire day with her friend Mayan yesterday. She is a vibrant, energetic, competitive and smart 4th grader and Jessica has struck up a good friendship on the bus as the two ride to school together. Mayan's parents are from China and are learning English. It is frequently difficult to understand them, but we feel comfortable with them as they are friendly and kind. I would imagine they were just as nervous to invite a near stranger into their daughter's life as we were, but I think our family and household passed the test of trust.

As a young girl like Jessie, I spent most of my free time with my best friend, Tracy Manning. Her household was quite different than my Mom's clean and sanitary and pet-free environment. Tracy's home had cats, dogs and other fun pets and I remember being scared of the pets because I was not exposed to animals. We mostly played in Tracy's room or we spent time at my house. I grew to love and respect Tracy, but I really never got used to her home surroundings.
