1998-2002 Cherringtons
From 1998-2002, the Cherrington family (Nathan, Jana, John, Emily, Allison) lived in KC while Nathan completed his PhD in science at KU Med. Jana also earned her PhD in toxicology while living here.
FUN FRIDAY NIGHT's were invented with the Naylor family. We lived 2 doors down from the Naylors and it was very convenient to use our 2 houses as playgrounds/bedrooms for the young children as the adults bonded and socialized. Mary Ellen's older boys, Rob and Joseph, often babysat for the younger kids and were such good sports about involving all ages of children.
When the Cherrington's moved to Tuscon, AZ and we moved to another house, FUN FRIDAY NIGHT'S were buried!
Jana and I were also Visiting Teaching companions. Such a delightful friendship.

1996--A STAR is BORN--Brandon performs at Renaissance Festival in KC
4-year-old Brandon entertains the crowd during a magician's performance at the KC Renaissance Festival. Brad and I have never laughed so hard and we certainly got a taste of what celebrity life was like for a day as patrons of the festival would point and stare at Brandon throughout our visit to this festival.
YOU MUST WATCH THE END OF THIS TO GET THE FULL EFFECT!
What a memory! We will miss Brandon for the next 2 years, but know he will be teaching important truths to people!

Mormon Battallion 1846: 1996
My dad, my two boys and I traveled to Fort Leavenworth, KS and spent the day honoring the Mormon Battalion. My Dad sang in a choir with many other valiant church members including the Bingham family. It was a fun and glorious day with the boys and I learned a lot about sacrifice and honor.

Grandma Hilda Olsen reads Little Black Sambo
My maternal grandmother, Hilda Nash Olsen, tells a 2-year-old Brandon the beloved story from my childhood, Little Black Sambo! As siblings, we gathered around grandmas knee as she enticed us with this story of adventure, danger and intrigue. Although it might be considered politically incorrect today, we had no clue of the implications of a "black Sambo!"
