Surgery: HYPERPARATHYROIDISM

My one-week follow-up post op with Dr. Thompson was a welcome relief!!! Dr Thompson indicated the 2.5 cm adenoma removed from my upper right parathyroid was much larger than any scan revealed and it’s size surprised him. He concluded the tumor was most likely growing for some time: 4 years approximately from first reported high calcium lab.

Current labs indicated PTH: 17 and Calcium: 9.5.

My 3 other parathyroids were detected, analyzed, and concluded free of adenomas.

Everyday, more energy and strength are rewarded me and the incision site is healing beautifully.

I recognize that euphoria/adrenalin are contributing to improved health, however, I can’t help but feel giddy with validation from a medical expert as to the negative and noticeable affects of hyperparathyrodism for the last 4 years.

For example, just two short weeks ago while working towards setting up Christmas decor (aided by my children,) I had heart palpitations while lifting boxes from the basement to the first floor.

TODAY, I returned to this task and experienced NO heart palpitations.
