These pictures were taken at Jessica's LAST practice before she performed the routines in front of Judges at Municipal Auditorium downtown. At the large arena, she was acting very calm and quiet and we wondered if she was nervous.

As soon as we got her into the car after her competition, she spiked a fever and has had a fever for three days! I wonder if this affected her performance--she got seventh of nine gymnasts.

The BVN basketball is on a winning streak this season. They have not lost a game........

until the one we attended! It was a very intense match and it appeared that the BVN basket was cursed. Balls just jumped out of it repeatedly. We managed to enjoy the game. My Dad brought Paul Platt to the game so he could enjoy the action! Hunter AVOIDS pictures very cleverly, but I managed to get a few!

I was asked to give a talk on coveting.

The tenthcommandment admonishes us “Thou shalt not covet” (Exodus 20:17). Coveting, orenvying something that belongs to another, is damaging to the soul. It canconsume our thoughts and plague us with constant unhappiness anddissatisfaction.

Brent L Top teaches that covetousness can be more than looking greedilyupon the material possessions of others and desiring to have them forourselves. It also may be an excessive desire for things that will satisfy ouregos: physical attractiveness, power and influence, even the reputation forwisdom and goodness. It may also be too firm an attachment to things that arealready ours.

The Lord commanded MartinHarris, “Thou shalt not covet thine own property.” Instead, he was to “impartit freely” to further the work of the Lord, who had blessed him with it (D&C 19:26).

After covetousness isrooted out of our lives, we can replace the old longings for earthly goods andpassions with dedicated strivings for the treasures of heaven.

Jacob characterized this asseeking first the kingdom of God. He also taught the best use of the worldlyriches so many people seek: Jacob 2:17–19.

“Think of your brethren like unto yourselves, and be familiarwith all and free with your substance, that they may be rich like unto you.

“But before ye seek forriches, seek ye for the kingdom of God.

“And after ye have obtaineda hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek themfor the intent to do good—to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and toliberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted”

A week ago,I was in our family’s living room holding my prized (and only) snow globe thatmy mom sort of gave to me as a gift a few years ago. I had been polishing itearlier in our dining room (I polish stuff when I'm bored), which is why I hadit when I went to ask my dad what flogging was, as it had been mentioned in mybook. To make a long story short, I went to my dad to show him how Richard PaulEvans had made fun of the dance, making the stupid decision to carry my snowglobe with me. I heard my dad say “careful Carson”, but it was too late. Inthat very second, I dropped the snow globe, which bounced off the carpetedliving room floor into the kitchen, and shattered.

It took afew days, but I soon realized that this was most likely a test from HeavenlyFather to see if I was capable to understand that material things don’t matter-I shouldn’t covet them. If so, I flunked it. It took until my realization ofthis lesson to mostly get over my snow globe breaking (mostly).

Notcoveting is a lesson that we all need to learn. Hopefully, to all you youngchildren, you don’t have to learn it the way I did, but just be warned: if youdo, don’t go into near depression like I did. Just know that it is a test fromHeavenly Father.

We celebrated Carson's birthday by going to one of his favorite restaurants, Red Lobster. Mostly, Carson eats the biscuits and takes the rest of the food home to be consumed later. He takes after me in this regards!

He received some games for his gifts and his father surprised him (and me) with a drum set! Of course, it was on a STEEP after Christmas sale! It would not be my first choice and I was relieved to hear Brad comment while listening to the kids "practice" on the set in the basement---

"What have I started," he lamented! The peace and quiet is no more!

Teen birthdays, for me, are very loosely planned! In fact, Carson had two friends attend a movie and "playdate." I took the boys to a grocery store after the movie and they picked out their favorite snacks to eat which included a sandwich, French Silk pie, donuts and a star fruit for FUN! It seemed like the boys had a good time and I had no STRESS!

(I even enjoyed the movie, Tin Tin, in 3D!

Christmas 2011

We spent Christmas Eve at my Mom's and Tanya, Mark, Nate, Scott and Lauren and Kim, Cody, and Jacob joined in the fun. My mom is a fabulous cook and always has such an inviting table set for her guests.

Although Christmas fell on a Sunday this year and was bit rushed, we managed to get all the presents open before Christmas.

Three video clips are included and represent our 2011 Christmas morning without Brandon! Other photos are of the yummy turkey we served with all the fix in's. My Aunt Sharon and Uncle Lyn Belnap, who are on a mission in Independence, Mo. joined us for Christmas Dinner.

Due to unseasonal weather during the holidays, we returned to an old tradition--visiting Crown Center and viewing the Christmas decorations, ate lunch at our favorite restaurants and bought candy from the Candy Shoppe! Carson and Jessie spent the money Grandma Evans gave them for Christmas.

Mrs. Julie Silferburg has been holding the yearly Christmas recital at this Toon Shop location for the past 15 years. This is the LAST recital in this room as the music legend shop closed in 2011.

After this solo performance, Hunter, Brad and Carson went to see the Blue Man Group perform at a downtown Kansas City location.

Jessica and I got all dressed up to attend a matinee performance of The Nutcracker at Kaufman Center. This state-of-the-art performing art center just opened this fall and is tremendous and beautiful. Attending this ballet was a dream come true for me. Jessica was mesmerized by the performers, musics, dancers, and costumes.

Red Bag project: teaching kids values

The kids helped wrap Elder Bishop's gifts for Christmas this year. I sent the package with a family that was driving to utah for Thanksgiving so we had to have the items ready before Nov. 22! It was a relief to have these gifts wrapped and sent.

I love seeing these hands serving others in the simplest of ways

Carson and Jessie enjoyed wrapping the gifts and getting the presents ready.

These ornaments are all filled with pictures of Santa and my children over the past 19 years! I sent this grouping of ornaments to my oldest son, Elder Brandon Bishop, who is serving an LDS mission in Provo, Utah.

It warms my heart with joy (and a little bit of sadness) to see all these photos together on this tree! What treasured memories each photo evokes as I reflect on the Christmas's past spent with my family. Although some of the trips to see Santa were FORCED on the teens, the countenance on their faces as they witnessed their sister's gleeful smile are etched in memory forever. My children are my most precious gift.

For a Christmas service project this year, we chose to purchase presents for 6 needy children who may not have a happy Christmas without donations. We received the names from a project in our city that began many years ago. Red Bag Project in KC. This Saturday, the kids and I will load up the van with 6 large red bags filled with the wrapped gifts and drop them off at a nearby church and the toys will be distributed the the kids.

The family got dressed up and attended a delightful annual Creche display and musical celebration held at a nearby Stake Center. My good friend, Amy Stephenson, directed a choir and full orchestra in a beautifully crafted, arranged, and directed concert. It helped us begin to feel the true Christmas spirit and relish the talents and gifts of so many individuals. Their effort and commitment set such an inspirational mood for many.

Becky Johnson teaches this adorable group of girls (Anna Bagley---Adrianne Johnson---Nikki) once a week using a curriculum called, "Lets play Music" Jessica loves the group dynamics, competition, and support she receives each week. Her teacher is enthusiastic, caring, intelligent, and organized. Jess has greatly benefitted from her teaching style and truly has a love for music.

Homemade Nativity with the Missionary Moms

I am so grateful to be apart of my Missionary Mom's support group. We gather once every 3 months to create care packages for our nine missionaries. The theme for the pictures below was Preparation Day items and included some very creative things to keep the missionaries engaged, motivated, and energized on the day they do many of the mundane, daily living things such as laundry.

This is the LAST time Darci Evans will be sending a package to her son, Landon, as he arrives home the first of December. We are so excited for her.

The 2011 Marching Season was refreshing, beautiful, and successful to band members, parents and directors. Each performance was delivered in a professional and melodic manner and each event was fortunately held in ideal weather. There was only one evening where rain coats were brought along just in case! I enjoyed being the BVN Band Parent Board President and so appreciate all the many qualified, committed, helpful and talented volunteers.

Jessie and Carson were off from school for parent/teacher conferences for 2 days. We enjoyed making craft spiders and Halloween oreo fudge balls! They turned out fantastic.

Halloween parties at school are a long-time tradition and we enjoyed participating this year in Jessie's 1st grade party! Brad even got to enjoy the sweet young ones dressed in their costumes.

Trunk or Treat--Brad took Carson and JEssie while I watched Hunter's marching band perform in a marching festival. Brad decked out his car as the Delorian from Back to the Future. Brad dressed up as "Doc" and Carson was "Marty" Brad loves Halloween and would not miss getting his "creative on" for this holiday.

Halloween night was spent at our dear friend's Jason and Radawn Bagley. They made a fire pit in their backyard and we spent a delightful evening talking, trick or treating and making the kids happy.

Hunter, Jess and Carson sang in a large youth choir to support a friend's Eagle Scout Service Project. The concert was a benefit performance to raise awareness and money for a community in Haiti. I was very proud of them.

Carson played the role of a Dwarf in his middle school production of an original play, "Rebootilization" and had a great time getting to know other kids in his school.

In her new dress and shoes, Jessica performed in the annual primary children's program at our church. She looked beautiful and did a fantastic job.

Mrs. Julie Silferburg hosts an annual Halloween piano party with her younger students. Even though Jessie is not a current student of Julie's, she participated in this fun party.

The gentle fall breezes lead the way into the crisp evening air muffled with the sounds of.....

...bellowing fans and musical brass, woodwinds and percussion instruments...

High school football season thrills the amateur sporting enthusiast and awakens the teenage hormones as Friday night games between rivals commence. Marching band members perform their perfected half-time show for their eager parents and friends and encourage the crowd to engage in cheer during the competition. Experiencing this "sporting" amplitude is a much look-forward-to event.

As young parents, I can not reveal that our goal for our children was performing in a High School Marching Band, however, it is certainly a "pay-back" moment for all the hours spent coaching, persuading, bribing, pleading and ~~yelling~~ for more practice time on their chosen instrument.

The dynamics of such a group have benefited the social needs of our boys and given them confidence in performing and committing to a rigorous schedule of events. Dedicated directors, leaders, and mentors have carefully molded the incoming freshman (mine included) into fine-tuned musicians and marchers.

Remarkably, even small High School's across the country gather musicians and train them in performance etiquette, marching, and instrumentation. The sense of "belonging" to a group is categorically pivotal to success in high school.

Marching band members take participation in this group seriously. If one member is absent, a gap is left and must be masked by others, making it challenging to complete the drill.

Stereotypes of band geeks may prevent the stalwart teen from entering the performance field, however, at the high school my children attend, the "band geeks" are almost always the student-selected winners of the Homecoming and Prom King and Queen Courts!

Increasingly, marching bands are performing indoor concerts that implement many of the songs, traditions, and flair from outside performances.

Most marching bands use some kind of uniform (often of a military style) that include the school or organization's name, shakos, pith helmets, feather plumes, gloves, and sometimes gauntlets, and/or capes.

Dedication to practices, drills, maneuvers, music memorization and weather flexibility make a Marching Band Member one of the most noticeable students in the school. The stand-outs have a reputation of honor, respectability, morals, intuition, and intelligence.

Whether the uniform is militaryesque or bright yellow, collectively marching as a group and performing demanding musical shows creates harmonious group dynamics. This spirit of belonging resonates with a student's confidence and academic achievement.

17 comes much too fast

Hunter's birthday on September 12 always comes around so quickly and takes me off-guard. Especially after the 10-year-anniversary of September 11!

The morning of his birthday, I had not a present to share with him.

After I rolled out of bed and made a quick breakfast for him, I did not stop running and planning for Hunter's 17th birthday evening celebration. On the agenda included Sprint Store, HyVee, Aeropastle, and Sam's club for ribs and double-layer chocolate chip cookie cake.--a family favorite!

My evening activities were filled with a meeting for our High School band (I am the Parent Band President this year) and a piano lesson for Carson and then we ate a late dinner and had grandma and grandpa over for dessert!

Believing that my second son is 17 takes my breath away. He will leave the nest in less than two years!

Hunter's favorite present was his upgraded HGC Sprint Phone. Now he can check his homework scores ALL the time.

Inspiring FREE live orchestra music presented by the KC Symphony was a very memorable way to spend a comfortable Labor Day evening. Even better, we spent the concert with friends Chris and Jenny Staggs and Heidi Bills and daughters. They are members of our church congregation.

I found this picnic idea very interesting! A portable table is something I must search for for our next outdoor event involving a meal!

One of my passions is listening to orchestra/band music and although I have no musical talent, I am a most enthusiastic fan. I am always inspired by the bold, strong, vigorous sound of a full orchestra and my favorite sound is from the FRENCH HORN! That bellowing really gets me pumped!

I hope the children enjoyed the live event as much as I did. Exposing my children to quality music has always been a priority of mine and if you follow my blog at all, you MigHT know that!

Quantum of energy?

Transition: an abrupt change in energy state or level (as of an atomic nucleus or a molecule) usually accompanied by ~~loss or gain~~ of a single quantum of energy

My 4 children in school all day

Am I losing or gaining energy? That is the question of the day.

Since 1997, my morning routine has been waking groggy, bed-head, grouches and shuffling them out the door praying confidently that the Aldi's chocolate cocoa crispies would last until 10:30 am. Just as I would shut the door, another creature barked. There at my feet was the toddler-- begging to watch "the grouch" on Sesame Street!

The barking has stopped. The house is quiet. I am alone.

My friends warned me this would come fast, but in the midst of the 13 years of chaos and rush, I mocked their words.

...And here it is...

Transitioning to this new phase is certainly a loss: companionship--albeit a sub-human specimen in the making--, snuggles and hugs all day, spontaneous "I Love You's", playtime at Jumping Jax--meeting other Mom's while kids play, shopping trips with a fellow shop-o-ho-lic

Transitioning to this new phase is also a gain: focus, quiet, uninterrupted time, gas money, lunch with MY friends, getting to the items on my "bucket-list", boredom, weight-gain, (ooops, those are the negative)

Recently, I visited a novelty Toy Store to buy some incentive rewards to aid in teaching my 6-yr-old to "stick with her task." As I meandered through the isles, peacefully and quietly, I reflected that the last time I visited this store, I had a toddler in tow. During my fantasy reflection, the child was a happy and willing participant during the trip bouncing and skipping, however, the SCREAMS of a nearby noise snap me back to reality!

(My youngsters were the MOST horrible shoppers and would beg, cry, whine, yell, pounce, escape my wrath in order to have their instant gratification satisfied. Sometimes I caved--sometimes I did not!)

Back to reality--my continuing search in the store revealed many Mom's and children together connecting, hugging, sharing, snuggling, laughing and there I was...

...alone...

I put my big girl pants on and let my brain carry on a most enthusiastic conversation something like this, "your kid would just be begging and screaming for that pink over-priced, plastic, noise-making junk and you would need to "go to the happy zone" to simply get her out of the store without punching her"

My conversing worked! No tears.

After my successful purchase, I headed out the door, proud that I did not cave to the emotions..........Then I got to the car.................

and lost it! The ugly cry where I could not even turn the key to start the car!

Did I mention my youngest kid is just in 1st grade? She will be home in 3 hours!

A once a year occurrence to look forward to

Don't you just love looking forward to a certain month because for the last 10 years you have enjoyed an activity during that month that has proven to be fun, festive, FREE, and one ALL the kids will enjoy?

August is one to look forward to our family because we get to participate in an outdoor carnival for the entire family sponsored by Brad's work. FREE lunch, soda, train rides and BINGO keep us coming back every year!

Last Blast of Summer

Carson, Jessie and I enjoyed one last blast of summer fun when we attended the Missouri State Fair--Sedalia, Missouri. We drove down Friday night and attended a wedding reception of Andrea and Wyn--the daughter of a family friend we knew when we lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin--Bill and Cindy Decker. The bride was stunning and the groom dashing at the lovely outdoor event.

Spending the night at the "Night" Motel in Willow Springs, MO was quite the adventure. A quick search on PriceLine revealed that hotel fees in Sedalia were well over $100 and not even 2 stars! This fair is a BIG deal to Missourians.

The $54 a night room was only air conditioned by a window unit. The last time (on our honeymoon 24 years ago) I spent the night in a similar room, I didn't do any "sleeping" as it was too LOUD! The intense thunderstorm in the middle of the night also added to the ambience, however, prevented me from getting any decent sleep! The desk attendant even informed me that I paid TOO much for the room and should contact the front desk for better rates the next time I stay!!!!!!!!!!!
.....right!!!!.....

Morning came early and the loving arms of my sweet daughter wrapped around my neck sent me into spasms of annoyance as I tried to snag a little more sleep.

The entrance to this Fair was this large, brick structure.

Decorating these fans was the best idea of the morning as we used them to "cool" us throughout the humid day.

This slide most likely existed before Missouri became a STATE!

Tower of Terror!

We were amazed at the size of this farm equipment's tires!

Carson's fascination with science led him to spend several hours at this small Science Fair within the State Fair. The workers began calling him by his first name. Local Missouri universities Science departments sent their representatives to teach the interested visitors.

The "Swine" building, although not a favorite for Carson and Jessie, made us laugh out loud because of the seriousness of the pig owners. They wanted to be as comfortable as possible during the week-long competition and some even set up their home-away-from-home!

No matter how "homey", no one could avoid the SMELL!

For 4 hours, the kids went from ride to ride without standing in ANY lines! They were nearly "spinning" when they stopped!

One would never know of the dangerous storms that ripped through the Missouri region only two days prior to our attendance! We witnessed many large trees split in two. The day after the storm, the Fair delayed opening by several hours in order to clear debry.

It was a beautiful day for an old fashioned ferris wheel ride!

I have never proclaimed to be a good cook, just one who gets a edible meal on the table every night! But I am a pretty good "baker" because that is what I love to eat most--SWEETS!

As witnessed by this sinking Marble Birthday Cake for Brad's 46 birthday, I may not make dessert look good, but the recipe is fool-proof! It is from my arsenal of recipes from Brad's childhood--and he LOVES it! Anything yummy for my "Man" on his birthday!

Making homemade cards is always a fun activity for Carson and Jessie. They must take after their grandmother, who makes ALL her own cards! Carson spent a long time creating this masterpiece

and Jessie made Brad 10 cards! She is my craft queen!

Hunter's Busy Summer

The very first day of summer, Hunter gathered his friends and fellow scouts together and worked on his Eagle Project--something he had planned months prior.

As any mother of an Eagle Scout knows, the application and paperwork is one of THE hardest parts of the project. It was Hunter's goal (and mine) to get everything complete and turned in by the end of the summer!

Grandma Bishop created this beautiful plaque to commemorate Hunter's Eagle Scout Rank. She was in town at the beginning of Summer and presented it to him--even though he was not an OFFICIAL Eagle

GUESS WHAT? HE (we) DID IT!

Last week, Hunter turned in his final project paperwork and application to the BSA and is now awaiting his Eagle Board of Review date which should be Aug. 18!

Although as a family, we MAY not of accomplished ALL of our Summer goals, this is a major accomplishment for Hunter and we are PROUD!

Austin and Jared came up from Springfield, Mo. to attend a tri-stake dance in the Kansas City area. They stayed over at our house and had a blast!

After EFY, it was off to Scouting's High Adventure with the troop from Overland Park 1st Ward--584!

Three-days tubing, wake-boarding and water-skiing at Stockton Lake in 100-degree temps. was enough to wear any 14-16-year-old boy out!

With temps over 100 degrees and in the 90's in the evening hours, there was no relief from the beating sun, except in the water. The scouts and leaders are great examples of endurance and strength and making the best of any situation!

Jessie told Brad that he looked like a teenager when she saw him wearing his hat this way!

Hunter worked hard to stay on the skis for as long as possible!

Tubing was fun for all of the scouts! The back of Hunter's legs suffered the MOST sun damage as they were exposed ALL day to the intense UV rays!

On the third day, the campers were exhausted and attempted to find AC and stay indoors. Besides the cool of the van's they traveled in, the closest building was the Stockton Lake Visitor Center and Army Corps of Engineers.

The group learned all they wanted to know concerning the nearby dam.

BVN Band Camp--EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING

Last week, Hunter spent the majority of his days practicing with the Blue Valley North Marching Mustangs in preparation for the 2011-12 season. Typically, this group uses the football field for their practice formations and drills, however, temperatures over 100 degrees kept the students in the air conditioned band room much of the week.

Tuesday reached a high of 112 degrees--a record-setting weather event in Overland Park!

A reprieve from the intense heat was enjoyed on Thursday and Friday and the students and directors were able to get some field time.

A tradition for many years includes a Saturday "preview" show on the field and parents, siblings, and other relatives are invited to join the marchers--IF THEY DARE!

A cool, misty morning was a perfect way to spend time together with the family and follow the lead of our alto sax player!

Much of the week, I spent preparing and serving the BVN band as the Band Parent President. I am responsible for agendas and updates for monthly band parent meetings, the first which was held on Saturday. I also oversee events, fundraisers, and other band experiences and support the parents in their volunteer efforts.

As this is my second son to perform in the band, I am well experienced and informed of the band schedule, events, and performances and it is my time to serve in this volunteer capacity.

I do love my BVN Marching Mustangs!

Working together

Our youngest two children are 6 years apart. Typically, one would NOT expect this sibling relationship to be conducive to learning. Amazingly, (and I must say "well-deserved" by me), their relationship is one of harmony, mentoring, friendship, and love.

Quite often, Carson is the one caring for Jessica while errands are being run and other familial needs are met. His careful attention to her needs leads him to "imaginative" play not normally associated with a "tween" emerging into the hormonally challenged adolescent years. Catching him with a barbie in one hand and a hairbrush in the other is common as well as sneeking a glimpse of "I-Carly" on Nick.

When Jessie's play-day friends need an adult to be with them outside and hold the "water-fall" for them...

Carson is their go-to guy!

When Carson makes pancakes, he patiently lets Jessie stir the batter.

When something Jessie loves gets broken, Carson is there to mend the tears and set things straight again.

When Jessie needs her pancakes cut, Carson performs the task BEFORE diving into his own breakfast.

...this is MOSTLY the case......

but not ALWAYS!!!!!

I am so proud of Carson and so enjoy watching him nurture, love and support his sister and other family members.

The day before the M.A.M.A piano festival, Carson got braces! Despite the pain of his spacers, he pulled off a perfect score in the theory bee.

"Excessive Heat Warning"

IT's HOT THIS SUMMER........

...therefore...

our recent family reunitings occurred in environments conducive to keeping our bodies comfortable so our temperaments could be kept "cool."

(Gathering schizophrenically familial personalities together can lead to stimulus overload, which leads to "personality explosions". And with back-to-back reunions with crowds up to 28 people, with temperatures in the 100's, overloading on stimuli was unavoidable)

Our air-conditioned house served as a central gathering place for the 4-day Evans family reunion the first of July. When it was suggested to divide into teams and play charades in the family room, Uncle Paul quickly decided to have all the kids on one team and the "older and more mature" family members on the other!

(I am not sure my sister, Tanya..(pictured above in pink), qualifies as a "more mature, adult")

Duane and Anne Bishop Family Reunion

Poconos Mountains --- Pennsylvania

Celebrating 50 years of marriage, Anne and Duane Bishop gathered 28 of their posterity and reunited at this lovely private home in Albreitsville, Penn. (Aunt Christina researched and arranged the venue and everyone chipped in to plan the details of the 4-day experience.)

This is the balcony of the home and some of the grandchildren are welcoming their grandparents to their celebration.

Gathering in the kitchen creating family meals together was a joy for all. Aunt Heather directs Jessie and Brienna on making cupcakes for July 4th!

Grandpa Bishop traveled 4-days by car to arrive at this destination! He was willing to accept any help for his aching back and Riley comes to his aid in the family room.

Game playing offered participants a chance to reconnect and engage in some "friendly" competition---although Uncle Ritch was usually the WINNER! The kitchen table often found many relatives deep in conversation and fun!

Someone's BED appears alongside the wall--bodies were sleeping EVERYWHERE in the 7-bedroom, 4 bathroom house! (did I mention only 4 showers)!!!!!!

Uncle Jeff--an outlaw through and through---NO TIMETABLE---NO AGENDA for this reunion!

The majestic mountains of Colorado were the backdrop of these breathtaking pictures and a

girlfriend only excursion.

The weekend was not only relaxing, but very productive. We talked, laughed, ate, walked, shopped, played games and had some powerful moments of inspiration together! We Mom’s can solve MANY problems you know!

This group of women is so wonderful and I look to them as mentors, friends, and sisters in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are connected by so much, but most importantly, we KNOW we are daughters of God and can inherit many blessings by honoring him and his church on the earth. We know we also are expected to serve our families and fellow-men and I am pretty sure that I speak for all of us, that we are ready to “conquer” the world after being bonded for 4 days!

We traveled to and stayed at Kelly’s 3-bedroom condo in the mountainous town of Keystone Colorado. She owns this property and travels to it many times to ski and relax from her busy schedule as a Kansas dentist.

During our shopping "outlet" excursions, the fashioneesta in us blossomed as we advised on "What Not to Wear" to our fellow sisters. I also purchased Father’s Day gifts and I got Hunter some very inexpensive shirts. (a little productivity during a vacation! GO ME!) He really enjoys Aeropostle shirts and they look good on him. He will get good use of them at the upcoming Youth Conference and EFY! More girl time for him!

Traveling to the Denver airport via the Continental Divide was a perfect ending to this excursion. We were surprised to see avid skiers on the slops in JUNE! Many SHIRTLESS! The parking lot of the resort was filled with smoke and the aroma of barbecue! TAILGATING while skiing! I have seen it all!

My sister, Tanya, joined us for the weekend from her home in Windsor, Colorado.

Early this Summer on a hot afternoon, the house had gone quiet after a two-hour trip to the swimming pool. The eery quiet lulled me into a hour sleep until nature spoke.

As I entered the bathroom, this junk pile and this adoring smile greeted me !

"I just want to clean the world,"

responded Jessie while dropping the last load of wrinkled receipts, old bandaids, samples of antibiotic cremes and rusted nails on the porcelain counter.

Junk drawer revealed! Some items in here have not been seen since 2004!

I quickly (BEFORE her momentum waned) supplied Jess with ziploc storage bags in varying sizes. Instructing her regarding "organization" and "sorting" was a breeze as she already had the cremes in a bag.

My last advice to Jess was to let her Dad know that it was HER that messed with his junk drawer and not MOM!

OTMS Annual POPS in the PARK features many fun activities for younger (and older!) siblings of the band participants. Carson, our THIRD son and THIRD band member, plays the trumpet in the 6th grade band.

Attending in this annual event 7 times makes it qualify as my favorite middle school band event! The music and outdoor atmosphere mixed in with the pot-luck dinner and games makes for one delightful Spring Evening! Miraculously, this night has NEVER been rained out!

The inspiring Mr. Evans leads the band in song! He is a great mentor and teacher for the kids and works this event like a well-oiled machine!

For every elementary school- age kid, participating in Field Day is the PRIZE for enduring a long year! After volunteering for this ALL-day, fun and kid-screaming frenzy for a billion years, I am taking a break!

For my only daughter and fourth child, she will get the pieces of me that are still functioning after enduring the heat, humidity, sweat and screams of this delightful event.

My strategy, learned from experience, is to show up, take a few cute pics, walk to 3 stations and give a HIGH five to my energetic kindergarten and her new-found friends!

...then I get in my air-conditioned mini-van, take a quick last look back at all the "young" and "hip" Mom's wiping sweat from their brow with fake smile's on their faces as they try to move the "cattle" along to the next station without losing any in the transition!

...then I hit the gas and make my exit headed for the nearest WII FI HOT SPOT (complete with AC) with my laptop in hand! With my icy cold diet coke by my side, I fire up the beast and upload my photos of my cute daughter and "blog" away!

One is never too old to hunt for Easter candy! Hunter was a great sport while searching all over the house for eggs and was willing to get the ones hidden in high spots for Jessie and Carson.

We really missed Brandon on his FIRST Easter away from the family. Taking family pictures after church is just not the same.

Although it rained all weekend, we managed to snap this outside picture during a dry spell.

Jessica is wearing a dress given to her by her 12-year-old cousin, Katherine Lentz, who lives in California.

When Jessica was born, Katherine and her Mom visited Kansas and Katherine wore this dress for Easter--2005!

My Aunt Sharon and Uncle Lynn, my father's only sister, are living in Missouri for one year and serving an LDS church service mission. They will work on genealogy projects at a MidContinent Library in Missouri. They joined us for dinner at Mom and Dad's house. It was oh so delicious and filling. My Mom is the best cook!
