Happy Birthday CAR CAR
Today is Carson's 11th Birthday and we wish him a happy birthday. He is maturing into such an obedient, insightful and spiritual young man with many musical talents. At the end of every day, I spend "snuggle time" with Carson (still) and we get to share the best moments of our day. He is eager to improve on the things that went wrong that day and celebrate the triumphs.
I am so proud of him as he works very hard in school and loves learning and reading.

Serving at the Bishop's Storehouse
The kids first day off of school BEFORE a winter blizzard hit KC on January 6, my family and I helped out at the Bishop's Storehouse as they were in much need of assistance. Kim, Cody, Jacob, Hunter, Carson, and I traveled to the Richmond, MO site to be with my Dad and help load food orders to be driven to Southeast Missouri the following day.
Here are some pics of the crew.
The Winter Storm began on our drive home. Traffic traveling the other direction was at a stand-still because of 2 minor accidents. It took us 3 times as long to get home mostly due to the fact that we followed a BLOCKADE of 6 snow plows plowing the freeway Parallel to each other. Oh what a SITE!
Celebrating Brandon's 18th b-day
Brandon turned 18 on January 5, 2010. Attending seminary after a long holiday break began his day. His seminary teacher actually had a birthday sign up celebrating a 1/2 birthday of a student who celebrates her birthday in the summer. She had forgotten Brandon's birthday and was only reminded when another student wished him a happy birthday!
Brandon enjoyed a lot of Facebook and text birthday wishes from many friends in town as well as distant relatives while he was at school. That is how one communicates these days.
We celebrated with a family dinner at Outback Steak House as the temperatures in Kansas City plunged into the 0 digits. The weather forecasters were predicting a bad winter storm two days after Brandon's birthday which was on a Tuesday!
The Naylor and Davis family wished Brandon a happy day and we served a texas sheet cake. John Naylor shares the same birthday as Brandon so it has been a tradition to celebrate together. Around 9:30 PM, Kate received a text message announcing that SMSD canceled school the next day. We could hardly believe her when her Mom, Mary Ellen, received her very own text message stating the same thing. The information flew around fast and furious and the teens were a hopping! A movie/birthday party was planned within the hour with several of his friends.
For the next 3 days, Brandon got to "party" as school was canceled. 5 more inches of snow fell and the wind-chill temperatures fell to -30 degrees!
What a way to celebrate being 18!!!!!!!!!

KC winter to REMEMBER
No school Wed, Thursday or Friday of this week.
0 degrees with a windshield of negative 22 does not feel good even though traveling on the roads is possible. If students, bus drivers, brain-dead teenage drivers and others were to be stuck even for 5 minutes without protective clothing (which hardly anyone has here in OP), ER's would be swamped with frost-bite victims.

Welcome 2010
Hunter had a few friends over before he attended the annual New Year's Eve dance for the Lenexa Stake. The event was held in our new stake center.
Back Row: Cody Hughes--Hunter Bishop--Micah Hansen
Cody's friend, Joshlyn Manning, Nicole Day, Elizabeth Wheeler, Nelle Day
Carson climbed into this "hide-away" under our sink and spent hours reading a book. Not to be left out, Jessie found her own "secret /spot" under the bathroom sink. A child's imagination is one of the best tools for a positive play experience and I enjoyed watching my children on New Year's day come up with a game besides "screen" time as we call it in our house.
On New Year's Day, my family got to see the Missouri Repertory Musical Production of a classic movie, "A Christmas Story" We laughed and laughed at the musical interpretation of the story. What a way to end the holiday season!
